Updates

The Settings > UPDATES > Automatic Updates > Automatic Updates tab allows you to enable automatic updates for the MFT Server application. Its purpose is to ensure that the MFT Server component is always running on the latest version, including any patches that may have been released. In addition to the automatic updates, you also have the option to manually perform an update.

When you click on the Settings > UPDATES > Automatic Updates module, the Automatic Updates tab will display the status of the automatic update feature, which is either enabled or disabled. Automatic updates are disabled by default. When enabled, you can enter the day of the week and the time that the system will check for an MFT Server application update. If an update is available, it will automatically be installed, using the fields configured under the BACKUP DATASTORE heading, depicted in figure 403 below. You will also see a Last update date that displays the last time the application was updated. To the right of the date is a View Log hyperlink which provides you with the details of the last update.

Enable Automatic Updates

To enable automatic updates, click on the Enable automatic updates... check box, as depicted in figure 403.  After doing so, the remaining fields associated with automatic updates will be enabled.

Day and time:

Every - Select the day of the week that the automatic update will occur on.

At - Select a time, using the 24-hour clock, that the update will take place (this uses your local timezone).

Backup Datastore - This is the database that will be used to back up the current database before the update takes place. It cannot be the same database used by MFT Server, defined in the Settings > DATASTORE > Datastore > Datastore tab.

JDBC URL - The URL for the backup database.

Username - The username that has access rights to the backup database.

Password - The username's password.

Test Parameters - Click on this button to validate the backup database URL and user credential connection. A "Configuration test passed" message box will pop up if the test is successful. If unsuccessful, an error message will be displayed.

Apply - Click apply to save the configuration fields.

Discard - Click discard when you do not wish to save configuration changes.

Each week, on the configured day and time, the system will check if a newer version of MFT Server is available. If there is a newer version, it is automatically downloaded, installed and started. If the automatic update fails, the system will rollback to the previous version and restart the service. Please see the log file if the update fails. If you are logged into the MFT Server Manager UI during the time when an automatic update takes place, you will be automatically logged out when you attempt to navigate anywhere in the UI. You can log back in, then click on the Settings > UPDATES > Automatic Updates > Automatic Updates tab to see the Last update date and time, and log information.

Manual Update

Please enter the Backup Datastore fields, successfully Test Parameters and Apply the field settings before attempting a manual update.

You can manually check for the latest MFT Server update by clicking on the Check for updates button, depicted in figure 403. Initially you will see a "checking for update" message appear above the button. If you are running on the latest MFT Server version, a new message will appear stating: "Application version is up to date!". If a newer version is available, the download will begin immediately. You have the option to cancel the download, if desired.

If you opted to download a more recent version of the MFT Server application, a message box will pop up after a successful download. You will be prompted with this question: "Start an application update?". This is depicted in figure 404 below. The message box will also provide instructions on how to manually start the installer using a shell prompt.

Start an application update?

OK - Click OK to start the update. After doing so, a window will pop up stating "Updating an application". After the update is complete, you will be prompted to reload the page in the MFT Server Manager UI, where upon after doing so, you will be logged out of the application. Log back in. After logging back in, the Settings > UPDATES > Automatic Updates > Automatic Updates tab will display the Last update date and time, along with a View Log link. The log is useful if any errors occurred during the update process.

Cancel - Click Cancel if you do not want to start the update. You can apply the update at a time that is convenient for you using a shell prompt as described in the message box depicted in figure 404. Please note that the update command in the message box is constructed using the saved JDBC URL and Username fields as depicted in figure 403. If you run the update using a shell prompt, restart the MFT Server Manager UI when the update is complete (if the UI was open when the update command was executed). After logging in to the MFT Server Manager UI, the Settings > UPDATES > Automatic Updates > Automatic Updates tab will display the Last update date and time, along with a View Log link.
