The Status > Updates node allows you to enable automatic updates for the MFT Gateway application. Its purpose is to ensure that the MFT Gateway component is always running on the latest version, including any patches that may have been released. In addition to the automatic updates, you also have the option to manually perform an update.
When you click on the Updates tab, the page will display the status of the automatic update feature, which is either enabled or disabled. Automatic updates are disabled by default. When enabled, the Updates node will display the day of the week and the time that the system will check for updates, which will be automatically applied when one is available. You will also see a Last update date that indicates the last time the application was updated. Next to the last update date is a View Log link. If you click on this link, the log file associated with the last update will load in the browser.
Enable Automatic Updates
To enable automatic updates, click on the Edit button. A dialog window titled Automatic Updates will appear, as depicted in figure 101.
Figure 101
Enable automatic updates - Check this box to enable this feature.
Day and time:
Backup Database - This is the database that will be used to back up the current database before the update takes place. It cannot be the same database used by MFT Gateway, as defined in the Datastore node.
Test - Click on this button to validate the backup database URL and user credential connection. A "Configuration Test Passed" message will appear at the top of the page if the test is successful.
Save - Click save when done. After doing so, the Update node will indicate that automatic updates are enabled, and the day and time this feature will run.
Each week, on the configured day and time, the system will check if a newer version of MFT Gateway is available. If there is a newer version, it is automatically downloaded, installed and started. If the automatic update fails, the system will rollback to the previous version and restart the service. Please see the log file if the update fails. The log file is accessible by clicking on the Updates tab, then selecting the View Log link.
Manual Update
You can manually check for the latest MFT Gateway update by clicking on the Check button, depicted in figure 101. If you are running the latest MFT Gateway version, a message will appear at the top of page stating the application is up to date. If a newer version is available, a message box titled Application Update Available will pop up prompting you to download the current version. If you click OK to download the latest version, the MFT Gateway installer will download. When the download is complete, a message box titled Application Update will pop-up, allowing you to start the update by clicking on the Start Update button. The message box will also provide instructions on how to manually start the installer using a shell prompt. If you click the Start Update button, the update will take place, and you will be automatically logged out of the MFT Gateway Manager application. After logging back in, the Status > Updates node will display the Last update date and time, along with a View Log link. The log is useful if any errors occurred during the update process. If you wish to update the application using the shell prompt, make a note of the instructions in the Application Update pop-up window, then click the window's Close button. Run the command as described. See figure 102 which provides an example using the Windows command prompt to run the update.
